Presentation of the KA2 TUNE project

On 17 and 18 February, a meeting of representatives of the institutions participating in TUNE took place in Rauland (Norway), with the start of the face-to-face activities. TUNE is a project funded under the Erasmus+ programme, actions K2, which will last for three academic years, ending in September 2024, and in which five higher institutions of traditional music education (Conservatories and Universities) from different European countries are participating:

• UNIVERSITETET I SOROSTNORGE, Rauland, Noruega (coordinator institution).

• CONSERVATORIO SUPERIOR DE MÚSICA DE VIGO, España.

• PANEPISTIMIO IOANNINON, Arta, Greece.

• PÔLE ALIÉNOR, Potiers, France.

• TARTU ULIKOOL, Viljandi, Estonia.

TUNE aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge in the field of traditional music and culture of these different places, and to this end offers a series of actions such as: classroom and online training for participating students and teachers, e-learning, webinars, on-line reports (Platform for e-learning); and other actions that will be announced as they are developed.

Among these activities, the meetings, in the format of Intensive Weeks (Intensive weeks), will be held on a rotating basis in each of the participating cities. The first of these will take place in Ioannina (Greece) between 30 May and 5 June 2022, followed by a meeting in Viljandi (Estonia) in October. Rauland (Norway) is scheduled for next year in February, and Vigo in September 2023, ending in spring 2024 with the meeting in Poitiers (France). These meetings will bring together some thirty students and teachers of traditional music from the five countries to exchange knowledge, learn styles and repertoires from different traditions and perform concerts in which the results of TUNE will be shown to the public. In addition, dissemination activities are planned in collaboration with other schools and cultural groups linked to traditional music in the environment of each meeting, which in our case will be the city of Vigo and its region, for which the corresponding collaborations and institutional support will be collected. The Vigo expedition to Ioannina is already working on this first international meeting of students and teachers, which, as we have said, will take place in the last days of May.

Alongside these meetings, a Joint Academic Module will be designed as a subject that students of traditional music will study together in these five centres as part of their academic curriculum, and which will allow them to go beyond intensive meetings, and that these students integrate multiculturalism as an experience through music, thus creating a stable international network of performance and research in the field of traditional music, which aims to be a pioneering initiative in Europe. Precisely because of this innovative character, TUNE also enjoys the support and presence in its activities of the ASSOCIATION EUROPEENNE DES CONSERVATOIRES, ACADEMIES DE MUSIQUE ET MUSIKHAOCHSCHULEN AISBL (AEC), based in Brussels, Belgium, which was represented at the February Rauland meeting by its Executive Director, Stefan Gies.
