Welcome

WELCOME

Welcome to this new space of the Higher Conservatory of Music of Vigo.

It was a long time ago, in 1956, that the Conservatory of Vigo began its journey in the city centre. It is from the current facilities in an almost idyllic place where in 1956 there were but fields, that, like fog on a cold and humid winter morning, from between the walls of this enigmatic building, music flows down the hills of the Castro.

The history of this Conservatory is also the history of a surprisingly vital Vigo: city of energy, diverse and always in motion, which makes it one of the most dynamic cities in Galicia. The Conservatory has always been part of this vitality of the city driven by industrial and economical development, first with just a handful of teacher, but slowly growing into the center for higher education it is now, with 76 highly specialized teachers and 350 students from all parts of Galicia, Spain, Europe and America. It’s impossible imagining the cultural history of Vigo without the Higher Conservatory of Music, in terms of education and artistic production, both of which we hope to continue expanding in the future.

In the context of an increasingly interconnected world, the Conservatory, as the city itself, has to position itself and occupy a space that is both highly personal and clearly identifiable. The excellence and quality of the teaching we impart must be our policy and our brand and our identity.

We live in fast times where everything is ephemeral and lasts just a few months, but knowing how to adapt to the moment is sometimes the key to success. We must face new adventures that will be decisive for our future and at the same time define the profile we want for our institution, our education and the vision about music we carry inside for the next 10 or 15 years.

At an international level we are currently the Higher Conservatory with the biggest European projection in Spain, as evidenced by the number of mobilities, both incoming and outgoing, which led to the recognition of the CSM of Vigo with a distinction for «good practices» within the Erasmus+ program by the "SEPIE". Vigo is talked about in the halls of the Belgrade Music Academy, in Sarajevo, NMAU in Kyiv, Kharkiv Kolitarevsky Faculty in Ukraine and even in China and Almaty. Professors from Italy, Austria and the Netherlands, among others, demand to visit Vigo, which means a commitment is needed form our side, to keep up this line of work, one of the fundamental pillars of the Conservatory’s image within and outside the walls that welcome us.

And therefore, to face this new stage successfully, we need and want to count on the collaboration of all the institutions that support us, and also of those with whom we share the same educational space. The Conservatory is not just for those working in it, be it teachers, staff or students. It is a global institution, where everyone has a place.
